I received an email last night from one of your team members that was tired & discouraged after a particularly tough day. When I finished responding to them I realized I needed to share it with all of you. At some point during this journey you will want to throw in the towel. As you build your team, you'll find people who want to throw in the towel... Here's my response:
First of all, I hope you had a good night's sleep. I've discovered that no matter how hard my day was, it always looks better in the morning. Some days are going to be like that, my friend. The key is to be able to acknowledge their existence and then start fresh – learning from the disappointments but also making a commitment to yourself to keep moving forward no matter what. I would encourage you to write out your WHY, post it above your computer and everywhere else you can put it to keep you moving forward when you want to toss in the towel. You will have days like this – more than one, though maybe I shouldn't tell you that. J

There are so many days when I wish I could go sit on top of my mountain and never come down. Or I wish I could buy a small farm and just play with animals for the rest of my life. J I get so tired and discouraged when all I work for doesn't materialize when I believe it should. My WHY keeps me moving forward. To build a company that will raise hundreds of millions for organizations making a difference in the world… To provide a way for millions to have financial freedom…

Because my WHY is so much bigger than myself, it gives me the motivation and courage to keep pressing through the challenges and obstacles of the last 7 years. It will continue to keep me pressing forward for the next however many years I'm blessed to run this company. I'm planning on at least another 35 years (I'm thinking 86 will be a good year to slow down but I might change my mind by then! J).

What is your WHY? Write it down. Read it every day. Implant it in your heart and soul. It will keep you moving when you want to throw in the towel.

You know, I've never been in the military but I've talked to a lot of people about Boot Camp. Its purpose is to stretch people beyond their limits, to show them they are capable of so much more than they believe they are. It is to push them to accomplish things that normally shouldn't be accomplished in that amount of time. It is to produce strength, courage and persistence. It is to create leaders from people who were content to just be followers before. It is not meant to be easy.

You made a commitment to yourself. You made a commitment to a team. You made a commitment to a company. Fulfilling that commitment will not be easy but I'll be here to cheer you on and BELIEVE you can do it! And then, when you're all done, you will be able to truly help your team because you will have felt everything they will feel as they build their business. You will be able to empathize with their pain while helping them move forward. Succ.ess is never easy. Achievement never comes without struggle. But, here's what I know. It is so worth it!!

Here's to a better day…
